Bikini Area Laser Hair Removal: An Honest Beginner’s Guide
Bikini line or Brazilian? We calmly explain how bikini area laser hair removal works — the zones, pain, preparation, aftercare and number of sessions.

The bikini area is one of the zones we are asked about most at our Tallinn studio — and also the one people feel most uncertain about. That is completely understandable: it is an intimate, sensitive area. In this guide we explain calmly and honestly how bikini area laser hair removal actually works, so you can decide with confidence.
Bikini line or Brazilian — what are the options?
Before booking, it helps to know that the "bikini area" is not a single fixed zone. Two options are usually distinguished:
- Bikini line — hair is removed from the area outside the edge of your underwear. A discreet choice that works well as a first introduction.
- Deep bikini, or Brazilian — the whole area is treated according to your wishes, either fully or leaving a shape you prefer.
There is no right or wrong choice — it all comes down to your comfort. Many clients start with the bikini line and extend the area later, once they feel more at ease.
Does bikini laser hair removal hurt?
The bikini area is more sensitive than, say, the legs, so you feel the pulses more — most describe them as a warm snap lasting a fraction of a second. A modern laser cools the skin as it works, and we set the pace of the session around you. The vast majority of clients say it is noticeably more comfortable than waxing, and most of the nervousness disappears after the first session.
What to expect at your first session?
The first visit always starts with a conversation: we go through your wishes, review your skin and hair type and explain how the device works. Then we do test pulses on a small area, so you can see and feel what the sensation is really like — only then do we continue. The work itself happens at a calm pace, and you decide how quickly we move.
Time-wise, count on about 15–20 minutes for the bikini line and 20–30 minutes for a deep bikini; the whole first visit, including preparation and the conversation, takes up to an hour. Privacy is protected throughout the session: the door is closed, we cover the areas not currently being treated, and you can ask for a pause at any moment.
How should I prepare for a session?
- Shave the area 12–24 hours before your session — the laser needs the hair root, not its length.
- Do not wax or pluck for at least 4 weeks before, as these remove the root the laser targets.
- Avoid sun and self-tanner for 2 weeks before the session.
- Wear comfortable, breathable underwear and come with your normal hygiene routine — nothing special is needed.
Aftercare: what to keep in mind after the session?
Mild redness and warmth are expected in the first hours. For the first 48 hours, avoid the sauna, hot baths, workouts and strong friction — choose looser clothing. Moisturise with a fragrance-free cream and hold off on exfoliating for a few days. You will find full details in our aftercare guide.
How many sessions are needed, and what does it cost?
The bikini area generally responds well to laser, because the hair there is dark and coarse. Most people need 6–8 sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart; you will usually notice thinning after the first couple of visits. The price depends on the size of the chosen zone — the bikini line costs less than a deep bikini — and we give an exact quote at the consultation, where we can see your skin and hair type. We wrote in more detail about what shapes the price here.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to be fully undressed during the session?
Only as much as the chosen zone requires — for the bikini line, your underwear stays on. We work discreetly, cover the areas not being treated, and you set the pace of the session at all times.
Can I come during my period?
Yes, if you use a tampon or menstrual cup and feel comfortable. Since skin can be more sensitive on those days, you are also welcome to reschedule free of charge — just let us know early.
Is laser suitable for sensitive skin?
Usually yes — we set the device energy and cooling to your skin specifically and start more cautiously. At the consultation we look at your skin and tell you honestly if anything needs extra care.
How long do results last?
Laser gives a lasting reduction in hair: treated follicles stop producing hair. A few hairs can return over the years due to hormonal changes, which an occasional maintenance session keeps in check.
When you feel ready, take a look at our laser hair removal service or book a consultation — we will work out together which zone and plan suits you. Calmly, without pressure, at your pace.
