The Best Time to Start Laser Hair Removal? Autumn — Here Is Why

If you want smooth skin in summer, you need to start when you are thinking about it least. We explain why autumn and winter are the best time to start laser hair removal.

Interest in laser hair removal peaks every year in May and June — exactly when it is the trickiest time to start. Smooth summer skin is not made in summer; it is made the previous autumn. Here is why the season matters so much with laser, and how to actually do the timeline maths.

Why are autumn and winter the best time to start laser hair removal?

There are three reasons, and they are very practical:

  • The sun is low and skin is pale — laser works most safely and effectively on untanned skin.
  • A course takes time — 6–8 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart means 6–9 months; start in autumn and it is done by summer.
  • Aftercare is easy — in the season of long sleeves and trousers, protecting treated skin from UV takes almost zero effort.

Sun, UV and laser: why do they not mix?

Laser targets pigment. When your skin is tanned, the skin itself holds more pigment that captures the light energy — this reduces the energy reaching the hair and raises the risk of skin irritation. Hence the rule: no tanning for two weeks before and after a session, and SPF 30+ on exposed treated areas. In an Estonian November, following this rule is laughably easy; in July it takes real discipline.

The timeline maths: start in October, enjoy the summer

Let us do a simple calculation. If you start in September or October, 6–8 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart fit comfortably between October and April. By the time the first beach weather arrives, your course is finished or on its final stretch: a fraction of the hair remains, it is fine and light, and shaving has become a rare exception. Starting in January still gets you ready for summer — but every month of delay pushes the finish line toward autumn.

Why is spring the worst moment to start?

Starting in May puts you immediately at odds with both rules that matter with laser. First, the sun: every session needs a two-week tan-free window around it, and an Estonian summer makes that hard to keep — the beach, the terrace and bike rides constantly tangle the schedule. Second, time: a course that starts in May only finishes in winter, so in terms of results you "lose" a whole summer during which you keep on shaving.

There is a practical side too: spring is peak season for studios, when finding a suitable time slot is hardest. In autumn and winter the calendar is emptier, sessions can be placed exactly when they suit you, and the whole course runs more calmly. If your goal is smooth skin by summer, the calendar simply works for you in autumn and against you in spring — that is not a sales pitch, it is arithmetic.

What if I want to start now, in the middle of summer?

That is possible too — it simply needs more care. Areas that never see the sun, such as the underarms and bikini area, are very well suited to a summer start. For legs and arms, we review your sun habits together and shift the start if needed. We wrote more about laser in summer in a separate article.

Frequently asked questions

Is laser hair removal cheaper in winter?

Our prices do not swing with the season, but in winter there are more free slots and a more flexible schedule — getting your preferred time is easier than in the spring peak.

What happens if my course runs into summer?

Nothing terrible — we continue sessions if you follow the sun rules, or simply pause for the summer months. The results you have already achieved do not go anywhere.

Can I travel to a warm climate during the course?

Of course. We plan the sessions so there is a two-week sun buffer before and after your trip — just mention your travel plans when booking.

When should I book if I want to be ready by summer?

Count backwards: 6–8 sessions at 4–6 week intervals — the last sensible starting point is January. The earlier in autumn you start, the calmer the schedule.

If you want next summer to begin without a razor, the right moment to set the plan is now. Book a consultation or see our laser hair removal service — we will put your timeline together with you.
