Upper Lip Laser Hair Removal: Quick, Discreet and Lasting
Upper lip hair is a common, completely natural concern — and one of the easiest areas to treat with laser. An honest guide to how it works: pain, session length, preparation and the number of sessions.

Upper lip hair is one of the most common concerns clients bring to our Tallinn studio — and a topic people are often embarrassed to raise. Let us say it plainly: it is completely natural, very common, and one of the easiest areas to treat with laser. This guide calmly explains how upper lip laser hair removal actually works.
Why does upper lip hair appear?
Everyone has fine vellus hair on the face. When hairs turn darker or coarser, the cause is usually genetics or hormonal shifts — pregnancy, menopause or PCOS, for example. Shaving and waxing don’t change the hair itself, but they do irritate sensitive skin and need endless repeating. Laser targets the root, so it addresses the cause rather than the symptom.
Does upper lip laser hurt?
The upper lip is a sensitive area, but the treated zone is tiny — the pulses themselves take under a minute. The sensation is a quick warm snap that most clients describe as far gentler than waxing. The laser cools the skin as it works, and we can pause at any moment.
How long does a session take?
This is the area’s biggest bonus: with preparation, a visit takes about 10–15 minutes — many clients come during a lunch break. Your first visit adds a consultation where we assess your skin and hair type and do test pulses so you know exactly what to expect.
How to prepare
- Shave the area 12–24 hours before the session — the laser needs the root, not length. And no, shaving does not make hair grow back thicker.
- No waxing, plucking or depilatory creams for at least 4 weeks before — they remove the root the laser targets.
- Avoid sun and self-tanner for 2 weeks before; the face gets more sun than any other area.
- Arrive without makeup on the upper lip — we cleanse the area again ourselves anyway.
Aftercare
Mild redness usually settles within hours. For the first 48 hours skip sauna, solarium and hard rubbing; use a fragrance-free moisturiser and — non-negotiable for the face — SPF 30+ daily. Makeup is fine from the next day. Full details are in our aftercare guide.
How many sessions, and what does it cost?
Facial hair growth is hormonally driven, so it typically takes slightly more sessions than body areas: most people need 6–10 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, with visible thinning after the first few. The upper lip is also one of the most affordable areas overall — we confirm your exact price at the consultation once we’ve seen your hair and skin type. See our price list.
Frequently asked questions
Will the hair grow back thicker after laser?
No — that’s a myth. Treated follicles stop producing hair. Hormonal changes can wake a few new follicles over the years, which an occasional maintenance session keeps in check.
Does laser work on blonde or grey hairs?
Laser needs pigment in the hair, so dark hair responds best. If your hairs are very light or grey, we’ll tell you honestly at the consultation whether laser is the right choice — we don’t sell sessions that won’t deliver.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes — we set the energy and cooling to your skin and start carefully with test pulses. The area is small, so the load on the skin is minimal.
Can I come if I have PCOS or a hormonal imbalance?
Absolutely — for hormonally driven hair growth, laser is often the best available option. Expect a few more sessions and possibly occasional maintenance; we discuss this openly at your consultation.
