Laser Hair Removal Aftercare: A Complete Guide

Good aftercare affects both your comfort and your results. We explain what to do and avoid in the first 48 hours and the weeks that follow.

A warm, calm treatment room with natural light

The results of laser hair removal depend not only on the session itself — a lot comes down to how you care for your skin afterwards. Good aftercare reduces irritation, protects the skin, and helps each session deliver the best possible result. This guide walks you through, step by step, what to do and what to avoid, from the first few hours to the weeks between sessions.

What should I expect right after the session?

Mild redness and a feeling of warmth on the treated area are completely normal and usually settle within a few hours to a couple of days. The skin may feel a little like mild sunburn. Sometimes a small bump or itch appears around the follicles — this too is an expected reaction.

If you feel uncomfortable, a cool compress or a fragrance-free soothing gel can help. Avoid rubbing or scratching the area.

What should I avoid in the first 48 hours?

The first two days are the most sensitive for your skin. During this time it is worth avoiding anything that heats or irritates the skin.

  • Stay away from the sauna, swimming pool and hot baths — heat increases irritation.
  • Skip the gym and intense exercise, as sweat can irritate sensitive skin.
  • Avoid direct sun and tanning beds.
  • Do not use perfume, alcohol-based products or exfoliating creams on the treated area.
  • Choose lukewarm showers and gentle, fragrance-free products.

How do I protect the skin from the sun?

Sun protection is one of the most important parts of laser hair removal. Treated skin is more sensitive to UV light, and unprotected sun exposure can cause changes in pigment.

Apply at least SPF 30 to the treated area if it will be exposed to the sun, and reapply through the day. Try to keep the area covered or out of the sun for at least a couple of weeks. Sun protection matters not just immediately after a session, but throughout the whole course of treatment.

When can I exfoliate and remove hair again?

After a few days, once the redness has settled, gentle exfoliation can help. Treated hairs often begin to shed on their own, and light exfoliation encourages this — but do not pull them out.

  • Wait a few days before exfoliating, until the skin has calmed, and be gentle.
  • Between sessions, shave the hair if needed — shaving does not remove the root.
  • Do not pluck, wax or use an epilator, as these remove the root that the laser needs in order to work.

How do I care for my skin between sessions?

Laser hair removal works as a series of sessions, because the laser targets hair in its active growth phase. Between sessions, your main job is to keep the skin moisturised, protected and calm.

Moisturise regularly, keep using sun protection, and let us know if you notice an unusual reaction. When the skin is healthy and irritation-free before your next session, we can continue safely and effectively.

Every skin is different, so during your consultation and after each session we give recommendations tailored to your skin specifically. If you would like to start or continue your course, book a laser hair removal session — we will help you reach your result calmly and steadily.
