Hair Removal in Tallinn: Laser, Wax, Sugaring or IPL?
Which hair removal method in Tallinn is actually worth it? We honestly compare laser, waxing, sugaring and IPL — how long results last, comfort and cost over the years.

Anyone looking for hair removal in Tallinn quickly finds themselves in a maze of options: waxing rooms, sugaring salons, home IPL devices and laser studios. Every method has its place — but they differ fundamentally in how long the result lasts and what it costs over the years. Let us compare honestly.
Which hair removal methods are common in Tallinn?
- Shaving — fast and cheap, but it only cuts the hair at the surface: the result lasts 1–3 days.
- Waxing and sugaring — pull the hair out with its root; smooth skin lasts 3–5 weeks, then it all starts again.
- IPL — a broad-spectrum light pulse that reduces hair growth; clinic devices are more effective than home ones.
- Laser hair removal — light at a precise wavelength that delivers a lasting reduction in hair over a course.
We wrote about the difference between laser and IPL in more detail in a separate article — in short: laser is more targeted and better adjustable.
How long do results last with each method?
This is where the main line runs. Shaving, waxing and sugaring are repeating methods: however good the practitioner, the hair comes back in full and you repeat the procedure year after year. Laser is a cumulative method: with every session there is less hair, and after a course of 6–8 sessions most people only need a rare maintenance visit. An honest note: even laser does not promise "100% forever" — hormonal changes can bring back the odd hair.
What does hair removal cost over the years?
Let us compare the cost of one area — say, the lower legs. Waxing in Tallinn costs roughly €25–40 per visit and you do it about 10 times a year — that is €250–400 every year, several thousand euros over a decade, plus the time and the discomfort of growing hair out between visits. A laser course is a bigger outlay at the start, but it is a one-time investment: after the course, only an occasional maintenance session is needed. Within a few years laser catches up with waxing on cost and stays cheaper from then on — not to mention the time you win back.
The time cost nobody adds up
Next to money, another currency is often forgotten: time. If you shave your legs twice a week for ten minutes at a time, that is roughly 17 hours a year — and with waxing, salon visits plus travel time come on top. A laser course takes 6–8 visits, and after that only an occasional maintenance session. Over ten years the difference runs into hundreds of hours.
That is why we say the right comparison for laser is not "one session vs one wax", but the whole journey: what you pay and how much time you spend over five or ten years.
Which method suits whom?
- If you need a quick fix for tomorrow — shaving has its place.
- If your hair is very light, grey or reddish — waxing or sugaring is the honest choice, because light-based methods need pigment.
- If you want a lasting result and your hair is darker than your skin — laser offers the best balance of results, comfort and long-term cost.
Frequently asked questions
Is laser more painful than waxing?
Most clients say the opposite: the warm snap of the laser, combined with cooling, is easier to tolerate than the tearing pull of wax. Sensitive areas feel more, but each pulse lasts a fraction of a second.
Can a home IPL device replace the salon?
Home devices are considerably weaker for safety reasons, so results come more slowly and often remain partial. They can help maintain a result, but rarely replace a proper course.
Can I switch from waxing to laser?
Yes — the only condition is that the hair root must be in place before your first laser session: at least 4 weeks should have passed since your last wax. Between sessions you can always shave.
Where do I start if I am not sure about the method?
With a consultation. We look at your skin and hair type and tell you honestly whether laser will work for you — and if it will not, we say that too.
If laser feels like the right direction, take a look at our laser hair removal service and book a consultation at our studio in central Tallinn.
